Dinky is a very special boy, with a unique, special story The day before Thanksgiving (2013), a lady came to the farm with this little boy, pleading for help. She was having some life challenges and ... (Read More)could not keep him anymore. She'd had him since he was a puppy. Although we have trouble placing chihuahua's, we could not let this little guy be homeless on Thanksgiving. Almost immediately after taking him in, Dinky began to grieve. He (literally) starved himself nearly to death. We took him to the vet to find out why he was a bag of bones, and why he would not eat. His test results came back almost perfect, the vet said that starving themselves due to depression is common in this breed. We reached out for help ASAP, and found a foster home for him. It wasn't an easy few weeks but Dinky eventually perked up (a month later) and put on some weight. True to the breed, Dinky started resource guarding and being snippy with the other dogs in the foster home, resulting in his return to Carolina Poodle Rescue. Dinky is at his healthiest point right now, and we do not have much time to find him a home. He needs a stable environment, one at which we are not adequately providing for him now. He is happy and healthy, but needs to find a home before he crashes again. Dinky needs an only dog home, and someone who can be home most of the day, as he has mild separation anxiety and really wants to be near people as much as possible. He walks well off lead beside you, and is almost house trained. He will circle around a few times letting you know it's time to go potty. He is sweet and affectionate! His nickname is 'The Dinkster,' and he responds well to 'Dink' or 'Dinky' How I act when I first meet new people: shy Please note - we do not ship dogs. Meet our Ninth Dog of Christmas Lady Pearl Lady Pearl was surrendered to the Columbia shelter by her owner with no reason given. When we picked her up from the shelter, the tag ... (Read More)on her collar had her name and a phone number. We tried to contact the owner to see why Lady Pearl was given up and to get more information about her history but the number had been disconnected. So we will never know her history or why someone chose to give her up. She is an outgoing little girl and has never met a stranger. She does well with our junior volunteers as well as adult. She is a people oriented dog. From what we can tell, Lady Pearl has always been someone's companion and she would like to be again! Although she would probably be happiest as an only dog, she does okay with small groups of other dogs. But she doesn't seem to mind cats. Alone, she is great! She doesn't like to share her bed or her food with other dogs and can be defensive around food. She is working on being clean in her crate, though she is calm in it. For a thirteen-year old, she is active and doesn't lay around. She prefers to be up and on the go. She would make a great companion to someone who is looking for a dog companion who is moderately active. Her sweet face would be a welcoming sight to see every morning and night. To see Pearl in action, you can see a video of her here. How I act when I first meet new people: friendly (Less)

UPDATE, OCTOBER 16th - Frankie and his siblings just had their (estimated) 1st birthday! They have been such a joy to watch grow and play, but it is time for them to begin their lives with a new family. Frankie is the most timid out of his brothers and sister. He loves attention once he gets to know you. He is very playful! He would do best in a home with another dog, as he looks to other dogs for guidance when he is in a situation where he is afraid, like meeting new people...if another dog approaches you, so will he. Frankie has a lot of potential to be a great companion! UPDATE - MARCH 19th: The pups are doing well, they are growing into ... (Read More)very sweet and playful buddies. They are such a joy to watch grow and play. The males (5) were neutered on the 16th, and are recovering well from surgery. The pups are about 7 months old now, and doing well with crate and house training. Still working on the leash, but they are getting it. We decided to wait a little to get the only girl spayed, Zelda (pictured) since she is smaller than the males. Pearson, Chandler, Hamilton, Frankie, and Tatum are the males. Chandler, the biggest weighed in at 37lbs before his surgery, the others are around 30-35lbs. We believe they will be around when fully grown. They are wonderful pups, that are looking for just as wonderful homes. Their original story is below. These guys had a rough start, but you would never guess it. Please help me help their doggy mother's wishes come true. I know she would have wanted them to have nothing less than the best. If you are interested in one of these sweet, sweet babies, please message for additional pictures and information. Thanks for your interest in a rescue dog. Chandler & his siblings (4 other males & 1 female) are hound mix puppies that were born to a feral mom that was set out on the road I live on. She was terrified of humans, what she had experienced in her short life is unknown. As most of the dogs set out on our road do, she made her way up to our property and favored our barn. We fed and watered her, gave her warm bedding...and waited on her pups to be born. She was very sweet, and did not mind me touching & deworming her pups at 2, 4, & 6 weeks old - but she wouldn't let us touch her...or come within 5 feet of her. We were finally able to get her to wag her tail when she saw us coming...but that was it. We could have just taken the pups, but where would that have left her? Lonesome and hopeless? We were in the process of setting a humane trap cage to get her into a fence, so we could take her and the puppies in, find them homes and try to rehabilitate her. When the pups were 8 weeks old, their mom went missing. We searched and searched but mom couldn't be found. She took great care of her brood and I know she would want them to have what she never had - the loving touch of someone of who loves them, a soft and warm spot to lay their head at night, a consistent meal, knowing what tomorrow will bring, someone to care, a place to call home & most importantly --- to be loved unconditionally. The pups are around 12 weeks old now and have had 3 boosters (DHPP/distemper) & need 1 more in 2 weeks. They are hound mixes so we are not sure how they will do as 'working/hunting' dogs, but I do know they will make wonderful companions. If you are interested, please e-mail me for more information. When messaging, please tell me a little about yourself, family, and what your new pet's life would be like. Thanks for your interest in a rescue dog! (Less)

UPDATE - MARCH 19th: The pups are doing well, they are growing into very sweet and playful buddies. They are such a joy to watch grow and play. The males (5) were neutered on the 16th, and are recovering well from surgery. The pups are about 7 months old now, and doing well with crate and house training. Still working on the leash, but they are getting it. We decided to wait a little to get the only girl ... (Read More)spayed, Zelda (pictured) since she is smaller than the males. One of the caregivers from Dreamweaver Farm found this homeless boy at a nearby Kangaroo Gas Station. That is why he has the Aussie themed names! ... (Read More) Dundee is blond, fit and handsome like Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee). His plumed tail curls over his back, and one of his erect ears, the right one, sometimes droops halfway. This, and his relaxed expression, gives him a very friendly look . With his alert, happy brown eyes, Dundee is ready for play or just hanging out. He is friendly when he meets people and animals. When he is spoken to, he endearingly cocks his head several times and looks at your face. When he heard a loud, unusual noise, he looked up and jumped a bit the first time, but he ignored the noise the second time. After just a few minutes of coaching and with a treat in front of his face, Dundee did a sit and a down! He likes toys, and with just a little training, we think he would fetch (true to his Labrador genes!) Dundee is a very easy goin' fella that passed the 'hug test' with Aunt Sherry. He likes ear rubs and likes to be petted and touched. We think he would adjust to family life very well and very quickly. Come visit him! Dundee tested very low for heartworms. Treatment can be difficult, and since it was a low positive, it was recommened to do the 'slow-kill' method, which is when a dog is being given monthly heartworm prevention and tested again in 6 months. Due to this temporary ailment, Dundee will go home with a year's worth of heartworm prevention. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly (Less)

FELINE LEUKEMIA POSITIVE Foster home is: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Adoption fee: $75.00 Why am I with a rescue group? We often find dogs left at ... (Read More)the gate, thrown over the gate, or wandering in the highway just out from our sanctuary. Imagine our surprise last April to find a kitten, almost comatose and traumatized, frozen in position next to the big dog's gated area. Several of our more hunting prone canines were all barking 'LUNCH IS HERE' when caregiver Tammy found the tiny bundle of shaking fur. At first we thought it was one of the many ferals that roam around the country here. Instead, once we got her insdie and the shaking stopped we found an approximately four month old kitten sweet and obviously not people shy at all. A quick trip to the vet before we could put her in the cat cottage confirmed my worst fears - Willow was feline leuk positive. Dr. Hill recommended we wait 6 months and see if perhaps she had simply been exposed but her own immne system would get rid of the virus. Sadly, it didn't and six months later, we had Willow spayed under heavy monitors to make sure no infection could enter her body. She recovered beautifully and is now ready for a home of her own. Willow is very dog savvy as she can not be with the other felines that live at our sanctuary so the only company she gets are dogs and her goldfish, Fred. She lives in our director's office and is often the 'demo cat' that is taken into potentail adoption meetings so that people with cats can observe first hand how their possible new dog will do at home with their own canines. Willow is lonely. Fridays and Saturdays, our heavy adoption days, are fun but the rest of the week she doesn't get much attention. Donna works at home and at central station as much as she does in the office so Willow often goes days with only a brief pat and a filling up of her food bowl and cleaning out of the litter box. She does not have a screeend in porch in her office area so spends hours in her window seat, watching and waiting for someone to take her home. She has never known the pleasure of curling up on someone's bed and listening to her human sleep gently through the night while she watches out for them. Willow would be an ideal candidate for an only cat home that has laid back dogs. She loves dogs, never runs, and will play with them if given the chance. She must be a strictly indoor cat although she can have a screened in porch for sunning herself. (Less)
