Rescue Me ID: 17-09-13-00266Shelby Cocoa Crunch (female)

Poodle    Age: Senior

Name: Shelby Cocoa Crunch Adoption Fee: $200 Breed: Mini Poodle Age: 10 years Height: est 10 inches Weight: est 12 lbs Good with dogs: yes Good with cats: untested Good with men: yes Good with women: yes Good with kids: yes House-trained: yes Crate-trained: yes Leash-trained: yes Must have fenced-in yard: no, but would be preferable Why am I with a rescue group? Although Shelby's owner loved her very much, she is no longer able to take care of her. We placed her several years ago and sadly, she had to return to us due to the health of her new owner. Shelby is a warm, affectionate, playful little girl who also has ... (Read More)amazing talents! At one time she knew a whole host of cues - She has been trained to: roll-over, shake paws (both right and left!), sit, stay, beg, fetch and speak. She's a whiz at everything! And if you tell her to 'go to bed', she goes directly into her crate. She lets you know when she needs to go out and do her business. This is one bright, happy little girl. Shelby had a dislocated hip when she returned to us. She has had FHO surgery and recovered nicely. While she can't leap tall buildings like she used to, she still has a ton of energy. She has an extremely soft coat, and loves to snuggle right up against you at night. She gives lots of kisses, and really is a people pleaser. This is one special little girl who will bring a lot of joy and fun to her forever family. Shelby does not do well living with other dogs - she wants to be the only dog. She's no problem taking long walks or going to stores, she just wants you all to herself when you get home. Shelby does not like to share her treats or toys- she does resource guard with them. She will gladly 'trade up' for something better than what she already has though. For example; if she has a toy offer her a treat instead and she should drop the toy. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-13-00260Kipper (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 7/7/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to a local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Heart worm positive. Kipper will be sent home with a 12 month supply of heart worm prevention. Please discuss the 'slow kill method' with your veterinarian. Weight: 40 lb Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes, he MUST have a privately fenced, large backyard space. He is a very energetic, young dog who needs his own space to run and burn off energy on a daily basis. Kipper loves, loves, loves zoomies. What doodle doesn't? What kind of home would be best for me? Kipper would flourish in a home ... (Read More)with someone willing to socialize him and earn his trust. He is a handsome and clever doodle boy, but needs ton continue working on trusting new humans, trying new things, and reinforcing training/basic commands. He is already a good boy, but will be an amazing dog with a little time and patience. Kipper takes time to warm up to new people and situations, so he is not the kind of dog who will quickly share his personality or trust, but when he does form that bond with someone it will be a beautiful relationship. He has been great around other dogs, but has shown some prey drive around cats so NO cats. he would do best in a home with NO kids - they tend to scare him and could affect the progress he's been making while in our care. He does need to be in a home with another dog so they can help him continue to learn how to be a dog. And he must go to an experienced dog home - he is not a match for a first time dog owner. Notes from his foster mom: 'Kipper is looking for his forever home! He is a labradoodle with some very definite needs. While at the rescue he would hide in the back of his crate. He is very timid and unsure of humans. This is probably a result of little to no socialization from his previous owners. If you go one way, he goes the other, although once relaxed you can approach to love and pet on him. Potential adopters must realize that Kipper is a work in progress. He needs a family that will love him for his quirky, goofy self and one that will work with him to continue the process of trusting the humans in his life. Leash walking is a work in progress. Another dog in the home about his size and age would be perfect, as he does take his cues from other dogs. He has made progress in his foster home, he loves to relax on the sofa and run, run, run, so a big, fenced yard would be a dream come true for him. While outside, he hasn't learned to come when called but he does watch and imitate the behavior of his foster brothers and sisters. The discovery of toys has been a milestone to this sweet boy. He loves to play, just like a goofy kid. Water bowls should beware, as water is his best friend! Kip is doing well with house training and is a super intelligent dog.' What is my personality like? Kipper was an owner release by his breeder with 2 other doodles. We don't know what his past holds. We don't know exactly why he is skittish. But we do know that he deserves a loving family and forever home. He is under socialized and will need help with learning how to be someone's beloved pet. How do I act when I first meet new people? Cautious, but warms up House trained? Kipper is doing great with his house training in his foster's home and will need to continue reinforcing it in a new home. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 7/5/2014 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-13-00200Atreyu (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 11/14/2015 originally, then July 2017 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/health of owner in 2015, behavior challenges in 2017 Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none known Weight: about 18 lbs Height: about 12 inches Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Atreyu is a bit shy but opens up quickly. Since he has been in one home all his life until now, it's understandable. Life changed a lot. He would do best in a quiet home with no children. UPDATE 8/22/2017: Atreyu (originally Bert) was adopted in January of 2016 but was recently returned ... (Read More)July of 2017 due to biting on a few occasions. We've held on to Atreyu for a while to see how he behaves. We have evaluated him and we have not seen any aggression out of him what so ever. Atreyu's home that we found for him had a family and so to be cautious- Atreyu will need to go to a quiet and calm home with no children. We have noticed that he is not a big fan of new places or loud noises. While getting to know Atreyu all over again we have learned he is one of the sweetest dogs here. He loves to be your lap dog and will give you kisses non stop. He walks great on a leash, doesn't pull or walk between your legs.. he just walks perfectly beside you. Atreyu is a great dog, he just needs the right home! What is my personality like? Sweet How I act when I first meet new people: Very nice, a little shy but warms up quickly. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 17-09-13-00198Angel (female)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 8/12/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release- Owner getting a divorce. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted Weight: Est 40 lbs Height: About 23' at the shoulder - a petite princess Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? First and foremost please understand that this princess wants to rule her kingdom alone. Angel is not a fan of other dogs at the moment. She is wonderful with people. She is warm, loving, giving and affectionate. But other dogs she has no use for. What is my personality like? Bubbly and active. Angel acts ... (Read More)and looks like a dog closer to 3 or 4 than to her 8 yeas old. She has a beautiful confirmation and floats/walks like a standard poodle should. She is great in a car and very much enjoys long walks - until you come upon another dog. Then there is trouble. We're working with Angel on this but How do I act when I first meet new people? Angel lives up to her name and is every bit the Angel with new people. She is happy, sweet and affectionate. Just don't bring another dog up. More tips and tidbits: The following was an evaluation done by an experienced standard poodle owner who spent a weekend with Angel. I think she would do best where she is the only dog in the home. She has food/water bowl and toy aggression, guarding issues. Her current owners may not have been aware of this since she has been the only dog. She went after my standard poodle aggressively and I had to separate them a few times. She would often approach our dog growling but with a stern command she would back off and walk away. I was told she does not do well with thunderstorms and lightening. We happened to have bad storms come through our area last Friday night. She was nervous, panting, restless and shaking. I stayed with her to cuddle her as much as she would let me and it did seem to help. Angel is reactive on the leash when she sees other dogs where she will bark, growl and lunge at them. Other than that she is a joy to walk and loves to go for them. They use a harness for her. (CPR note - we plan to work with Angel with a gentle leader head halter.) Yes she has some behavior issues but I think with a professional trainer, patience, time and attention with her new owners she will overcome them. She loves her people and was told she is good with children. She loves to play with her toys with you or even by herself. She loves to play fetch with her toys, balls and will bring them right back to you. She understands 'give' very well. Angel is an active standard, you would never think she was eight. If you are an active family that has a fenced backyard or likes to run, walk or go on hikes she's your girl!!! She knows basic commands and will give paw for treats and she takes them nicely too. She loves to give kisses, receive body massages from you and loves her chin scratched. She will lean into and rub up against you like a cat. She is a very sweet loving girl, She is a watchful standard inside and outside the home. Will bark to alert you if she sees someone outside or at the door. She loves going in the car for a ride, jumps right in. Windows need to be rolled up enough so that she won't jump out. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 12/30/2008 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-13-00195Alfred (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 05/09/2015 Reason for being in rescue: breeder passed away - family could not care for the dogs. The dogs lived in a barn with little or no human interaction so their socialization was lacking. Alfie was one of the youngest. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Special Needs? Alfie is extremely shy. He's come a long way since he came to us two years ago but I do not think he will ever be the happy, gregarious dog that we all are used to seeing in standard poodles. However, he will make a good companion to the patient and experienced standard owner. Weight: 50 lbs Height: est 22' at the shoulder ... (Read More)Adoption Fee: $429 Fence needed? Absolutely must. Alfie needs the security of a fence out his door - he enjoys laying around in the sun (under supervision of course) What kind of home would be best for me? Alfie's forever home will be one that has at least one experienced dog person who is at home most of the time and who has a willingness to dedicate him/herself to Alfie's progress. He also needs another dog to help him learn and give him canine companionship. A female with a laid back, mothering personality would be preferred. He has never been without canine friends and we don't think he'll do well without some now. For many years, other dogs were his only friends. He would not do well with children, so an adult home only please. Alfie lived a very cloistered life his first few years - living in a barn with other dogs, being used for breeding. He's come a long way in two years in foster care but he has further to go - life is about learning and Alfie has much to learn. He needs to have new experiences whether on walks or in pet stores or other public places. Obedience classes would probably be a good vehicle to get him less afraid. He cannot be let off leash even in a dog park because it would be difficult to capture him. We recommend a GPS tracker for Alife. The biggest attribute his foster mom will be looking for is a passion for dogs and an unfathomable belief that a dog can change, grow and become a happy member of a pack. Whoever ends up with Alfie will be very fortunate. What is my personality like? Alfie is very frightened of humans and noises. He lived with an experienced and compassionate foster mom since November 2015. She has seen him come out in many ways, but he continues to be very shy. When he is not in the backyard, he hangs out in his bed in the den. He lies by his foster mom and frequently asks for affection. He is very, very sweet. He sleeps in a crate in the master bedroom and is very accepting of body rubs and comes to the bedside in the morning for affection and asks for more with his paws when she stops rubbing on him. He does not get along with a dominant and aggressive dog that lives in the house - but it is the other dog that is the problem, not Alfie. He eats well and barks when he hears his meals being made. His foster mom loves him, and is very reluctant to say goodbye, but believes he needs to be in a home with an experienced owner who can focus a significant amount of time with him so that he can continue his growth in the human world. Anyone would be lucky to have him as long as they give him some time. Alfie moved to the farm in August of 2017 to start the hunt for his forever home. He is living with our directors and has done well. He regressed a little - he's still not asking for affection and cringes from touch but after a week, he has become more and more curious about these new people in his life. We think his next transition will take about 30 days and he will then continue his slow, steady improvement in his social skills. How I act when I first meet new people : Very frightened, takes time to warm up House trained? Right now, I keep a belly band on him, but I think he is getting better. Hard to say, because I don't admonish him much. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: est birthdate 5/20/2011 (Less)

What kind of home would be best for me? Zachary would enjoy a family with a few siblings of his own to run and play all day with! What is my personality like? Zachary Shiam was found a stray in a local city of South Carolina. He was found with a scar on his ... (Read More)back and horribly matted fur, but he still managed to be in high spirits. Zachary is nothing but positivity with a zeal for life no matter what his past has led him through. The only thing he is missing now is of course, a family to call his own. Rescue Me ID: 17-08-22-00105Jackson of Georgia (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Meet Jackson! Breed: Doodle (F2) 3/4 poodle, 1/4 lab Gender: male Adoption Fee: $300 Date into Rescue: 6/24/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender, not enough time for him Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 65 lbs Height: Est 26 in What is my personality like? Jackson came to CPR in 2012. He had some weird behavioral issues and one of our employees at the time took him on. Jackson was thriving wonderfully until recently. Unfortunately, his owner got a new job where he was working long hours, which meant Jackson was spending a lot of time in his crate. As we all know, ... (Read More)doodles need exercise - and lots of it! Overall, Jackson is a sweet, affectionate dog. He does have a dominate side to him, so he needs a very strong owner who has experience. He would do best as an only dog, as he does not get along with most. He does okay with submissive large female dogs only. Jackson is also not a big fan of kids. He does great with strong adults. He is a happy and playful dog who loves to chase a tennis ball! He has manners and is well trained but enforcing this takes a strong leader. Jackson knows sit and lay, he is house trained and crate trained. Jackson recently spent one-on-one time with one of our caregivers who shared the following: 'Jackson is full of energy and enjoyed fetching the ball. Listens to sit command very well. A little aggressive when taking treats but not too bad. Needs work walking on a leash. When inside he could not stop moving, was being playful and loving.' Update 7/13/2017: Jackson recently had a fatty like mass removed from his side and has recovered well. He is now back up for adoption and is looking for his right person! Jackson does however still have a habit of mounting certain people, but with the a stern voice- he knows to stop. Jackson has improved but would improve even more so if he could have one on one time with someone daily. At the end of the day; Jackson is just a huge puppy, and very energetic when let out of his run. He truly does not know his age. He enjoys running around in the field and picking up as many toys as his nose leads him to. Jackson does know his commands, and is very intelligent. If the right person would give him a chance, he would benefit greatly! Age: 2/24/2009 Who am I seeking? A very strong leader who has experience with dominant large dogs. A home where there are no other animals except him (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-22-00101Buster Noble (male)

Poodle    Age: Puppy

I'm your best bud let's go and let's do! I wanna see the world at your side! Date into Rescue: 06/13/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Buster was released to CPR in 2016 when his very busy family (4 kids) realized there was too much human activity in their home. He was rehomed to a couple who thought they wanted a service dog but after several months, the partner who was disabled realized he did not want a service dog. In that 8 months Buster received a lot of training and it made him a much better dog. You can run him through his cues- he knows a lot! Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Lots and lots and ... (Read More)lots of energy, needs experienced owner who understands and will stay on top of his behavior. BUSTER'S PREFERENCE IS FOR A STRONG MALE LEADER IN HIS HOME. HE LOVES MEN. Weight: est 55 lbs - needs to be 65 he's a long and lanky kind of guy Height: est 27' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes at least 4' tall. Buster easily jumps a 3' baby gate What kind of home would be best for me? An experience standard poodle owner, preferrably a man or a couple. Buster needs a strong, committed calm assertive leader who understands this boy needs shaping and molding. Buster is very, very bright and needs to be constantly challenged to learn new things and find new outlets for his energy. I see this slowing down when he's about 14 years old but not before. What is my personality like? Wide open. Completely and totally at about twice the rate of a normal standard poodle. He's always the first at the door, he's always the first up if you move, he's always first. Tail wagging, tongue hanging out he's ready for action. Buster is a live wire who takes life in big bites. He will resource guard and misbehave if his owner is not totally confident in his abilities to be Buster's leader. With the right owner Buster will lay his heart at your feet and follow you to the ends of the earth. Buster currently lives with many other dogs in a large foster home. He has gotten along well with his siblings although at times of high excitement (when mom or dad comes home, when going outside to romp) he can be what appears to be aggressive but is not. His current favorite running mate is another wide open no holds barred kind of guy - who happens to be a chihuahua. To the unobservant it looks like Buster is being too rough but a lot of it is simply because he's so much bigger. The chihuahua is right back at him and they off they go. Buster may not need a 5 lb playmate in his home but with an active happy sibling more his own size he would do okay. He'd be okay as an only dog also if you give him the attention he must have. No crating - he gets far too anxious in a crate. He's not destructive at all, does not tear up the house so we hope that is not an issue for too many people. Buster currently sleeps at the bottom of his foster dad's bed, curled up neatly and occasionally reaching out to make sure Dad is there, happy to be near his human guy. No kids - Buster's first home had 4 and in Buster's opinion, he needs to be the big kid in the family. How I act when I first meet new people: He's a bit tentative but we've found out the secret. Buster can be bought and he's cheap. Come bearing soft, chewy or smelly treats and he's eating out of your hands in under 30 seconds. Hot dogs are big favorites. Pupperoni is right up there also. House trained? Buster is doing much better in this area - at first he had some marking issues when going from being an only dog to a busy household with multiple dogs . He needs schedule and once on schedule he is very good in the house. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: birthdate 06/13/2015 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00086Scarlett with Kinsley (female)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 11/15/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray in eastern North Carolina. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Scarlett and her sister Kinsley will not be split up. Please don't even ask. they need a quiet home with very few visitors. Weight: 9 lbs Height: about 10' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $299 for both girls together Fence needed? Yes - Scarlett and Kinsley are very timid and will run if given the chance until they bond to their caregiver. There is no way they are ready to go potty on leashes. While they are bonded here we still don't trust them and they are in an area that ... (Read More)is securely fenced when they are outside for sunshine and potty time. What kind of home would be best for me? A quiet home - prefer an adult only home simply because most children have frequent friends over and these two could not handle that. We're looking for a very quiet home with few visitors. Scarlett and Kinsley do not trust others. Scarlett and Kinsley have met a very dog savvy 4 year old and did well with her including taking treats but this is a who is incredibly gentle with dogs (she lives with a toy poodle in a wheelchair). As long as these two are together, they are fine if you work all day but we highly recommend a mid day potty break for them. They are crate trained and sleep together in a large wire crate. We do not recommend you give them free roam of the house for a very long time. They will eventually learn it but they know how to hide and they will hide from you at first. What is my personality like? Before these two open up to you, they are timid and afraid. They will both need a lot of work and patience for to flourish into their true nature which we have finally seen. If you have patience and time, and it could be 3 to 6 months before you see their loving natures - but at the end you are going to find yourself with two little girls who like their people and are a lot of fun. With us, they run to greet us. They take treats willingly from known hands. They play with stuffed toys. They enjoy being picked up and loved on once they get completely comfortable. They are easy to groom and seem to like being groomed. They are well behaved on the grooming table. How I act when I first meet new people: Timid and afraid. These two are not going to come to you until they bond to you and that will take, we think, at least 90 days. These two are a beautiful project. House trained? Boy this was a challenge but they are getting better. Apparently wherever they were, they just went. Even crate training and convincing them that it was okay and not only acceptable but a must that they control themselves all night took months. Now they've finally got it. They now go outside first thing in the am and they will use a pee pad if it is available. I think the new owner needs to expect a lot of accidents in the first few months until they trust you. They'll get it - eventually. Patience patience patience. My age: Estimated birth date 11/15/2010 Please note - we do not ship dogs. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-25-00084Benny Griffin (male)

Poodle    Age: Puppy

Date into Rescue: 07/20/2016 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray in Atlanta GA Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Benny needs a calm home, an experienced owner and a structrued environment Weight: est 18 lbs Height: est 10' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Benny was found as a stray in a bad neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. He must have been very frightened and had a rough life during his time on the streets because Benny can be very jumpy and scares easily at loud noises and fast movement. Because of this, Benny would do best in a ... (Read More)quiet and calm environment with no children and with a patient adopter who will allow him room to breathe as he transitions into a new home. He will need time to decompress and get comfortable with his new surroundings and his new owners. What is my personality like? Benny was very frightened when he first came to us here at the farm, but he is now starting to trust our caregivers and he is becoming more comfortable. He now comes up and gently jumps on your leg to ask for some affection. He loves to go outside on walks and is doing well so far with his leash training. He enjoys a good roll around in the grass. Benny lives in a cottage with eighteen other dogs and gets along well all of them. Benny would do well in a calm, quiet home where he can get to know his new family well enough to fully trust them without his buttons being pushed. Benny was adopted and then returned due to biting the owner twice. We have not had any bite incidents with him while he has been back at the farm. Noted from caregiver- Benny is an adorable little guy with a quirky personality. It took a little while to get this guy to warm up to me, and even then, he could take me or leave me. Benny did well with the leash. He did well with Salem the cat and he handled the car like a pro. It seems that in his past life, he wasn't allowed on furniture. He was not comfortable with comfy cushions and made a hasty retreat. Benny is a intelligent guy. He's a quick learner. He quickly learned to respond to ' Benny .' Benny is not an overly affectionate dog, he has his own agenda. He likes to be petted, but I think he'd rather be exploring. Benny also has a habit of 'smiling.' There's no aggression associated with his smile. He doesn't snarl, growl or snap. When I petted him, he 'smiled.' Non aggressive aggression? I like this quirky guy. How I act when I first meet new people: Benny is cautious of new people and places. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00243Jasper (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 04/09/2016 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? early age cataracts that don't currently affect his vision Weight: 25 lbs Height: about 13 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $169 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Jasper is looking for a happy home, and one where he can be a big part of your life. He loves people. What is my personality like? When Jasper first came to us at the farm, he was timid around people and other dogs. He would cower at loud noises and fast movements. He was just a little unsure of himself. ... (Read More)With each day that passes, Jasper continues to blossom into a more confident and assured dog. He has made some furry friends here, and gets along nicely with other dogs. Jasper likes to go out on leash walks to explore and we are currently working on his leash training. Update: Jasper was evaluated 7/26/2016 by a veterinary ophthalmologist. He has early age related cataracts in both eyees but neither diminish his vision much at this point. The ophthamologist says recheck in 4 to 5 years. At the vet visit, our doctor did determine is a bit older than we were led to believe. Jasper is not defined by his age one bit. He is full of energy and goofy! He loves to walk outside but still needs some leash work. He is perfectly fine with most dogs but I would suggest a meeting of dogs if Jasper is a considered candidate for your home. He loves attention and will thank you with kisses. Jasper is a absolute fool for treats, use it to your advantage on winning him over! He can be bashful with new people, but with a handful of treats he will begin to come around. He now knows how to sit and will be easily trainable for basic commands. Jasper has improved so much since he first got here.. He is no longer the scared little poodle in the corner, he is the confident one wagging his tail to everyone he comes in contact with at the farm! How I act when I first meet new people: Jasper can be bashful, but he is friendly to new people. He absolutely loves riding in the car. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: our initial best guess of birthday is 4/1/2006 but after an evaluation by an ophthalmology surgeon, we now believe Jasper is at least 11 - but don't let it fool ya! Please note - we do not ship dogs. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-01-00372Whitley (female)

Poodle    Age: Adult

All about me! Name: Whitley Breed: standard poodle Age: 8 years; birthdate 07/25/08 Height: est 22 inches Weight: about 54lbs Good with dogs? yes Good with men? loves 'em Good with women? loves 'em House trained? yes Crate trained? yes Leash trained? yes Must have fenced in yard? yes Foster home is: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Adoption fee: $200.00 Why am I with a rescue group? Whitley's family recently adopted a handsome little guy with special needs, and simply didn't feel like they could give Whitley the time and attention she deserved. It was a difficult decision and not made lightly, and this is one terrific dog as a result. Whitley ... (Read More)is gorgeous in color, orange/gold to me but technically 'red' in the world of poodles. A face with white markings she reminds me of a creamcicle pop! A gorgeous tail, not full, but slightly longer than the average poodle. This dog has had time spent training her as she knows sit, down, roll-over, shake, and stay. And probably much more, that was simply all I tried on our first 'date' (assessment). She pulled on the leash and might benefit more from a harness, but again, this was only our first time out and it might be all the smells and bells were too much for her to remember all her best behaviors. Update as of February 2016: Whitley was adopted from CPR years ago and unfortunately has now returned due to some behavioral issues. Her family has reported that Whitley has shown aggression when being asked to do something she didn't want to do and aggression over food. Since she has been with us here she has shown aggression toward both the mop and the broom, and she does resource guard her food. Due to her resource guarding issues we feel she would fit best in a home without children. Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with. Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-19-00272Bella (female)

Cockapoo    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 04/02/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Bella was turned in to a southern shelter because her owners said she had become aggressive with the grandkids. She was adopted and returned because she was possessive over food - in the shelter and at the poodle farm, Bella has had no issues whatsoever an she is slowly losing weight as she is now on a healthy diet With no history of aggression we placed Bella but sadly her food aggression returned. We're now looking for a dog savvy owner who can work with food/resource guarding and understands that this is an ongoing management issue. We feed Bella in a crate - feed her always in ... (Read More)a crate with the door closed and we think you'll have a good companion. Because of Bella's history, she will not be placed in a home with children under 18. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? overweight Weight: 38 lbs needs to be 25 Height: about 14 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? No Bella was turned into a local southern shelter by her owners because they said she was becoming aggressive with the grandkids. She was adopted from the shelter and returned for being possessive over food. Bella then came to us here at CPR and despite multiple attempts we could never trigger these behaviors. Bella was adopted from us and again returned for aggressively guarding the couch and biting the man. Basically, Bella is resource guarding, she is protecting any item she feels is valuable, (food, bones, beds, etc) and is afraid approaching people are going to take it away. Bella needs a home with someone that is experienced and willing to work with her on this issue. She needs a confident leader that will be consistent and give her lots and lots of structure. Bella would greatly benefit from basic obedience training, especially the place, out (give or drop it), and leave it commands. What kind of home would be best for me? Bella needs an owner who understands that food is NOT love, that loving a dog means providing the right balance of food, exercise, and direction. She would love a walking partner and friend. Absolutely no children. We don't know what happened in her first home but do not want to give her or children a chance to interact together in ways that may hurt Bella. Bella's best home will be one that is quiet, thoughtful, experienced and understands that she will not 'get better' or 'get over' resource guarding but it can be controlled. I think Bella would do best with a laid back, canine companion to help her learn to romp and play. Exercise is always more fun with a friend. However, she would be fine as an only dog also. What is my personality like? Very laid back How I act when I first meet new people: Bella says hello and then goes about her business. She does not force affection on you but will happily be part of the group . House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 15-10-11-00282Buckles of Sweetwater (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 08/01/2015 Reason for being in rescue: owner turn into shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes - Diabetes Insipidus Weight: 13 lbs Height: est 13' Adoption Fee: I'm special Fence needed? Yes - Buckles is very active and loves to run. What does Diabetes Insipidus mean? Buckles drinks water - all day - and urinates frequently as a result. This is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone (vasopressin) which regulates kidney function. This disorder is very uncommon and is not curable. Buckles is currently on a hormone-replacement medication (given ... (Read More)through eye drops). It is helping a little but we do not know that this is going to be her permanent cure. We are working with her to find out what works best. What is my personality like? Buckles is spunky, friendly and loving. She is energetic and must have a fenced in yard to run in. She gets along with other dogs and cats - and would be a great playmate to another dog her size or larger. Buckles is eager to please and bonds quickly. Buckles does have a 'house training' issue only because of her condition. For someone who is retired and is home all the time, her house training isn't much of a problem. She must be taken outside every two hours, and her house training is basically controlled. Buckles cannot be deprived of water as it can be fatal to her. How I act when I first meet new people: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00454Sherlock (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sherlock! Breed: Shep a doodle - old english sheepdog and standard poodle mix Gender: male Date into Rescue: 7/31/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, can't handle Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? YES -Behavior Weight: Est 50 lbs Height: Est 25 ' Adoption fee: $329 Age: birthdater 10/6/2009 (Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We go with what we are told) What is my personality like? Sherlock's sad past history of shock-collar training (since he was a year old until he came to us, Sherlock wore an electric shock training collar at ... (Read More)all times) makes me cry every time I think of it. This is abuse plain and simple - to be continually shocked for the slightest transgression would drive me crazy too. Sherlock developed some bad, and quite frankly, sad, habits. After being assessed by a trainer, we believe it will take a very long time - possibly years to undo the damage that has been done to this guy. He is very strong on a leash but will walk alongside you, especially when he is wearing a harness. Sherlock is a bright dog with many skills. Cues he knows include : sit, wait (stay), up (stand up from laying down), down (to lay down), leave-it (walk away from whatever it is he's smelling, eating, doing etc.), kennel (go to his kennel), heel, here (his recall/come). There are a few other commands that he knew like 'place' and 'look sharp' but the previous owner did not reinforce these commands. Sherlock does have some resource guarding tendencies, especially inside of his crate over his food bowl. This is most evident when other dogs approach him. Our caregiver can now put his bowl in and take it out of the crate with no issues. This is a huge improvement from when he first came here. Also, according to what his previous owner witnessed with him, he does not like to be approached while he is lying down. He will growl, show teeth and or bite. We have not seen this at the farm, however farm-life and home-life are two different things, and he may resort to this behavior again once he is back in a home. Also according to his behavior with his previous owner, he could not be bathed or groomed without a muzzle. At first, we were able to do both without a muzzle here, but again he is out of his comfort zone, and sometimes dog's do not show their 'true nature' until they are comfortable. A few months into his stay with CPR, he did get wild during grooming and we chose to get him shaved down under sedation but we're going to try again. We have had two bite incidents at the farm with Sherlock. In both cases, Sherlock warned the caregiver repeatedly and the warning one time was ignored and the second time, Sherlock had a rag wrapped around his foot and it was cutting off circulation. Our caregiver was a new one and did not know he had time to call for help so he tried to remove the rag himself. It was painful and Sherlock snapped at him In both cases, the bite broke skin but did not require stitches or a doctor's visit. On a positive note, Sherlock is a happy, affectionate dog. There is much more to him than some bad habits, he loves attention and he loves to be petted. Sherlock is house and crate trained, and is VERY well mannered indoors. He really is a sweet dog who could make someone a wonderful companion, if you are are strong dog leader who understands this dog must always be closely monitored and whose energy must be drawn to positive activities. He loves to run and would make a great jogging or hiking companion. Who I am seeking: Because of his behavior, we understand Sherlock may be with for the rest of his life so he is available for virtual adoption and is seeking sponsors to help us afford to care for him. If you hate shocking dogs as much as I do, then consider Sherlock as your virtually adoptable favorite guy. Thinking you can handle him - we have requirements for Sherlock. He must be adopted by someone who is a very experienced dog-owner. Preferably someone who has experience with the breed and with the behaviors that we are describing. He must be an only dog - other animals overwhelm him and spark some of these bad habits of his. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.
