Rescue Me ID: 17-03-21-00374Sadie (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Puppy

Date into Rescue: 2/24/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, Sadie did not get along with the kids in the household and had issues with the owners older dog. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted. Weight: 46 lbs Height: 26' at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Sadie needs a calm, quiet home. Her last home was very chaotic and it was just too much for her. Sadie would love a home where she is allowed to spend the day cuddled up on the couch with you - after a brisk walk. She does not need to go to a home with children and she would prefer ... (Read More)to be the only spoiled princess. She is definitely not a fan of small dogs and has chased cats in her previous home. What is my personality like? Notes from caregiver 3/6/2017: 'Sadie with the gorgeous eyes! Sadie is a loving girl with some rules. She doesn't care for you rubbing her belly too quickly or being bothered around her back. She's not big on rough play from other dogs and enjoys her space and quiet time. I can tell she stresses easily in loud environments. Sadie loves attention from people though. Best with no kids. She's a really smart girl who will sit and shake. She will walk on a leash but acts skittish when you try leashing her. She can be a little puppyish but overall I think she's a mature young lady who just wants someone to treat her that way!' Sadie was released to us due to her not getting along with the children or the other dog in the home. She is a sweet heart but she does have her own limitations and does not like any type of 'rough housing' with other dogs. She is currently in a play group with a few hounds and she will deliberately stick her nose up at them playing and prance on by. Sadie does loves people, and one of her favorite things to do is give you a nice friendly hand shake to introduce herself! CPR knows and works with Sadie's breeder to help find homes for adults that are not working out in the home they are in. We know that Sadie is part standard poodle and part german shepherd- a shepadoodle. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 8/31/2015. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-21-00371Monty Python (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 1/18/2017 Reason for being in rescue: NC shelter, owner surrender. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? When Monty came to us his face was horribly matted. Once all the mats where gone we could see that there had been some trauma to his eyes from the hair rubbing. He was taken to our doctor where the eyes were sutured shut in an attempt to save them. Unfortunately the left eye could not saved and had to be removed, but the right eye healed and he seems to have some vision. Weight: 7 lbs Height: Estimated 7' at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? No. What kind of home would be best for ... (Read More)me? Monty would adore a retired person he could spend the rest of his days with. He is self sufficient, and doesn't absolutely have to have someone there with him 24/7 but we believe he would prefer to spend most of his time in someone's lap. What is my personality like? Monty was surrendered to a NC shelter in horrible condition. He arrived there with dreadlocks hanging off of him and with mouth and eye infections. He hurt and he could not see - he was shut down and completely aggressive to anyone that came near him. Since we have fixed everything we could medically and gotten him mat-free he has turned into a complete love bug. Monty gets along well with other dogs and could care less about cats. He really just wants someone to give kisses to! Notes from caregiver 3/1/2017: 'The boy I chose to spend some special time with, was no other than my darling Monty. He is a dear. He loves to be loved and I love to love on this boy. He can make the non-maternal turn maternal. This boys got spunk. He can be self selficent. He was relaxing on Donna's couch. He found his way off the couch safely. With very limited eyesight, he relies on his other senses. He may have an underbite with yellow teeth, no left eye and a right eye that looks like a marble, but he's got charisma.' Notes from the caregivers 3/7/2017: ' Monty has a new lease on life now that he's has gotten the love and care he desperately needed. His very limited eye sight in his only eye doesn't stop him from being a happy, extremely sweet little boy. I've seen him initiate play with other dogs and he knows how to follow your voice to find you. He eats great, has the occasional wet crate, but overall, for all he has been through since being with us, he couldn't be more happy and sweet..' How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. (Read More)he'd love to be the only dog in his new home where he can be his person's (or people's) one and only. He What is my personality like? Tater is very sweet and loving. He loves to snuggle! He is a great companion and loves going with his person on 'adventures' (even if it's just a quick car ride and back). He is a laid back and generally low energy kind of guy. How I act when I first meet new people: Shy at first, but he warms up and quickly loves everybody he meets. House trained? Tater is house trained in his foster's home and has had no accidents, but he can mark if given the chance. He currently wears a belly band and it prevents him from marking. He will be adopted out will belly bands to wear as he adjust to his new home. The foster has a lot of dogs coming and going, so the foster thinks he will not feel the need to display this behavior in his forever home once he's adjusted and not around other dogs. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-14-00274Susie (female)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 2/7/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, Owner's health problems. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None noted Weight: 17 lbs Height: Adoption Fee: $299 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Susie thrives in an environment where she can be loved and cherished for her. She would do well with daily walks and then a lot of one-on-one time with her new owner. No children please. What is my personality like? Susie is loving and affectionate with the person she gives her heart to. The rest of the world can go do it's own thing. She has been an only dog/one ... (Read More)person in the family all her life. She's adjusted to life on our busy farm but I know she yearns for a simpler life at a quieter pace. How I act when I first meet new people: Susie is okay with new people if they are quiet and mature but she is going to show marked preference to her current caregiver. That bond will transfer. Her current caregiver is cautious in picking her up, waiting until Susie asks. Once she asks, you can easily move her around. I think part of her hesitation in being picked up is she was rather rotund when we got her. Some of the weight has come off and she feels better. She has an adorable underbite. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-10-00282Napoleon Boneypuppy (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 09/27/2016 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/health of owner Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Napoleon BoneyPup's pancreas does not make the enzyme needed for digestion so he takes a powder that goes on his food to help with digestion. The powder is called Pancreatic Enzyme (8 oz) and the average cost is around 130.00 through 1800petmeds. The bottle will last a while as he takes a very small amount (1/2 teaspoon) twice a day. One 12 oz bottle will last approximately 10 weeks. Average cost per day is $1.95 per day. Napoleon also does best on a strict grain free environment . ... (Read More)He's currently on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Rabbit. It keeps stomach issues under control and stool firm. He eats well in a special bowl designed to keep him from bolting his food. Weight: est 16 lbs Height: est 14' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Napoleon is a sweet, affectionate little boy that lots of dogs enjoy picking on. He's an omega dog - he'll roll over and let anyone tell him what to do. He would do best in a calm home environment and if there are other dogs they must be very laid back and non-dominant. He needs regular exercise to continue his muscle and weight gain so a good walking regime will make him smile. What is my personality like? Napoleon has a happy go lucky and energetic personality. He loves treats and wiggles all over the place for them. Since discovering the pancreatic inefficiency, he has gone from a skinny 13 lbs to a robust 16 1/2 lbs and he's got a bit more to go. He needs some muscle tone now. If your an avid walker, Napoleon would love to go with you. Napoleon is crate trained, and he keeps his crate clean at night. He very occasionally slips up if I feed him too late or don't get him out first thing in the am but it's very rare. I love his face. He is definitely not a well bred poodle. His nose is too big and too brown. His eyes are a bit close set. But when he looks at you so ready to give you his heart, he's the most beautiful baby I know. Napoleon has some physical management challenges - but in exchange he'll give you his heart and make you his best friend. He has the loyalty and companionship factors down perfectly. How I act when I first meet new people: Napoleon is a little shy at first, but is friendly when meeting new people. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. For the past 9 years Teddy has been a beloved companion who enjoys cuddling, walks and playing fetch. He has been around other dogs and is okay with them, but definitely prefers to be someone's #1 pet. Teddy is epileptic and has recently started medicine to manage his epilepsy. At our vet the cost for this is $130.53. Before considering Teddy for your home, we encourage you to call your vet to insure that you understand the costs that Teddy will incur. Our last check in was 2/8/2017 and we will have the results by 2/13/2017. Teddy has had seizures for many years but has only recently had to go on phenobarbital. Since arriving at the poodle farm and on his medication, he has been seizure free. Weight: 12 lbs Height: Estimated 12' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Teddy would love a home where he could be with someone and have attention. He is used to having someone home with him all the time and he loves the company. What is my personality like? Teddy is a typical happy go lucky, snuggly little poodle with endearing eyes that look at you as if you hung the moon. He's energetic and friendly and ready to go for walks, help you cook dinner and then snuggle down at night. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly! House trained? A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. We were told Teddy was house trained. Here he was clean in his crate but has been marking behind the other dogs. We will outfit Teddy with his own wardrobe of designer belly bands to go home with. I strongly suspect in a home, this behavior will cease. Teddy currently lives in our director's office. He has never pooped in his office. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-08-00223Wiley (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 1/28/2017 Reason for being in rescue: original owner passed away, New owner cannot keep due to health issues. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted. Weight: 19.40 Height: Estimated 8' at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? Wiley would enjoy fence but, with regular leash walks, would be happy at home also. He should never be left alone in a fenced in yard for he does not like alone and will go on walk about to find some friends. What kind of home would be best for me? Wiley would love to have a home where he is allowed to sit in laps and be loved on. He would do fine as ... (Read More)an only dog and the center of your attention. What is my personality like? Wiley is a typical schnauzer personality - he's full of himself and he knows what he wants. He has had a really rough time the last few months since his owner died and he really, really wants some stability in his life. Wiley is not crate trained. This has never been asked of him before and he's having no part of it . We've found an exercise pen surrounding his bed works just fine. He has had the run of the house in the past and sure would like it again. He can't have that here but he can with you. Wiley is a very curious soul and has to inspect everything new around him. He enjoys sitting in laps and lying beside your feet. Wiley is great on a leash but he does get distracted by new smells. He is a intelligent and knows how to give handshakes, sit, and lay down. With other dogs he tends to want to be the leader of the bunch but with humans he just wants to be your beloved pet! Please note - Wiley has on two occasions used his teeth. Both times, he was running scared, very scared. The first was shortly after his owner died and he was living with a neighbor. He escaped the fence and ran home. His new owner tried to grab him from behind and he turned around and nipped her. Rule #1 in scared/freighteed lonely and confused dog rehab is don't grab the dog if you can help it. But these kind people did not know that. The second time was here at the farm. Wiley again performed his houdini act and got out of a fence. He took off into our large dog play area with 4 large dogs in happy chase after him. This time out of necessity (the large dogs were not trying to hurt him, they just wanted to play chase but Wiley didn't know that), the caregiver reached down to grab Wiley and he turned around and snapped at her. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Birth date 7/1/2010 Wiley was in foster care for a week before coming to the farm (Jan 2017). Here are the notes his foster mom wrote to us: Wiley was generally a really well mannered boy, no marking in the house, got along great with my boys (my non professional opinion is that he'd prefer to have doggy pals), didn't resource guard. He doesn't like his crate but sleeps well in bed on your feet. His only issue is that he doesn't like to be grabbed or shooed - for example I shoo my boys out of the kitchen with my feet while I'm cooking, and not thinking I did the same to Wiley... He was not pleased! Didn't bite me but if I'd been slower to dodge he would have. I didn't let him off leash in the yard but he did bolt out the door into the fenced yard and I had a hell of a time catching him. I think he just needs to develop trust for someone and he'll be fine. Also, that tongue made me laugh every day! Such a silly face. Oh and he loves carrots! And other veggies, I usually share whatever veggies I'm making with the critters so he had peas and kale too. I can't wait to see where he lands! He's going to make someone happy. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-07-00193Juliette (female)

Poodle    Age: Senior

Date into Rescue: 3/9/16 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to a local shelter with another dog named Romeo. The shelter did not have any information on the pair, but they are older dogs that easily get overlooked in shelters and needed help ASAP. Thanks to CPR's generous supporters we were able to save these sweet dogs. Juliette has been through a lot. She was expecting puppies and had an injured back leg. The puppies she was carrying did not live and once her injured leg was evaluated, it was decided it needed to be amputated. At the time Juliette was spayed, she had several mammary tumors removed. The surgeries were hard on this ... (Read More)sweet girl, but she has fully recovered. Foster location: foster home located close to Waxhaw, NC Special Needs? Juliette had trauma to her left rear leg and had to have it amputated, but she gets around no problem on her 3 legs. Juliette also has some arthritis in her front shoulder. Additionally, when she was spayed, we found her mammary chain was full of tumors so we decided to do a full mastectomy. However, there were so many tumors that the vet only did a partial mastectomy and removed the worst tumors. The remaining tumors should not be as invasive due to the fact Juliette has been spayed. There is always the threat that one of these remaining tumors could rupture, creating a 'oozing' sore and surgery would again be needed. Weight: 15 pounds Height: 12 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $129 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? A quiet home with owners who need a pet to love that does not require a lot of exercise. She would be the perfect companion to lay in your lap as you watch TV or read. She currently lives in a foster home with other dogs, but could live with or without other dogs. Much like some people, Juliette likes to have some 'alone time' where she can just be by herself and not messed with by the other dogs. What is my personality like? Juliette enjoys being a pet and loves to be held and rubbed. She will just melt into your chest while she's being held. She will wag her tail from hip to hip when she greets you. She will ask to be picked up by touching your leg with her nose and frantically waving her tail. She would love to be someone's cherished pet! How I act when I first meet new people: Juliet will be quiet at first, but once she relaxes, she is very friendly. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00243Jasper (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 04/09/2016 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? early age cataracts that don't currently affect his vision Weight: 25 lbs Height: about 13 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $169 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Jasper is looking for a happy home, and one where he can be a big part of your life. He loves people. What is my personality like? When Jasper first came to us at the farm, he was timid around people and other dogs. He would cower at loud noises and fast movements. He was just a little unsure of himself. ... (Read More)With each day that passes, Jasper continues to blossom into a more confident and assured dog. He has made some furry friends here, and gets along nicely with other dogs. Jasper likes to go out on leash walks to explore and we are currently working on his leash training. Update: Jasper was evaluated 7/26/2016 by a veterinary ophthalmologist. He has early age related cataracts in both eyees but neither diminish his vision much at this point. The ophthamologist says recheck in 4 to 5 years. At the vet visit, our doctor did determine is a bit older than we were led to believe. Jasper is not defined by his age one bit. He is full of energy and goofy! He loves to walk outside but still needs some leash work. He is perfectly fine with most dogs but I would suggest a meeting of dogs if Jasper is a considered candidate for your home. He loves attention and will thank you with kisses. Jasper is a absolute fool for treats, use it to your advantage on winning him over! He can be bashful with new people, but with a handful of treats he will begin to come around. He now knows how to sit and will be easily trainable for basic commands. Jasper has improved so much since he first got here.. He is no longer the scared little poodle in the corner, he is the confident one wagging his tail to everyone he comes in contact with at the farm! How I act when I first meet new people: Jasper can be bashful, but he is friendly to new people. He absolutely loves riding in the car. House trained? A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-11-00125Carlton (male)

Poodle    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 11/12/2015 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Carlton is a bit of a touch me not at this point, human hands make him nervous but since he moves around very nicely on his own, we're using cues to direct him without having to have those scary hands lift him. Carlton has an occasional episode that resembles a seizure - every few months. It is not enough to make him have to go on medication. In fact, remarkably, dramamine will often draw him out. We're puzzled at the cause but it does not affect his quality of life. Weight: about 10 lbs Height: ... (Read More)about 9 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $169 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? A quiet home where everyone takes their time and is kind and gentle. Carlton is a quiet, kind and gentle kind of guy. What is my personality like? Sweet, a bit shy and a little afraid things might hurt him. As he has gotten more comfortable and confident, he's doing better with timidity. He will never be a social butterfly but he has the potential to make a quiet person an excellent pet. Carlton is an omega dog - dogs that are the least bit dominant pick on Carlton and while he will defend himself, that just makes it worse and often times instead of defending, he screams and that makes more dominant dogs even more determined to get at him. He is doing very well in his play group with laid back, non dominant dogs. He would most likely do best as an only dog or with a very laid back, happy dog friend who will share and share alike. We have had Carlton for several months trying to figure out his behavior. Carlton has had 3 seizures in 5 months. They are well spaced out and are not full blown seizures. So far there is not the need for medication. He may never have another one - but we want everyone interested to know. Carlton loves food! It makes him leap for joy - literally. Watching this little guy jump 2 feet in the air for a cookie and get so excited and happy is a real treat. How I act when I first meet new people: A little timid but he warms up. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-01-00372Whitley (female)

Poodle    Age: Adult

All about me! Name: Whitley Breed: standard poodle Age: 8 years; birthdate 07/25/08 Height: est 22 inches Weight: about 54lbs Good with dogs? yes Good with men? loves 'em Good with women? loves 'em House trained? yes Crate trained? yes Leash trained? yes Must have fenced in yard? yes Foster home is: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Adoption fee: $200.00 Why am I with a rescue group? Whitley's family recently adopted a handsome little guy with special needs, and simply didn't feel like they could give Whitley the time and attention she deserved. It was a difficult decision and not made lightly, and this is one terrific dog as a result. Whitley ... (Read More)is gorgeous in color, orange/gold to me but technically 'red' in the world of poodles. A face with white markings she reminds me of a creamcicle pop! A gorgeous tail, not full, but slightly longer than the average poodle. This dog has had time spent training her as she knows sit, down, roll-over, shake, and stay. And probably much more, that was simply all I tried on our first 'date' (assessment). She pulled on the leash and might benefit more from a harness, but again, this was only our first time out and it might be all the smells and bells were too much for her to remember all her best behaviors. Update as of February 2016: Whitley was adopted from CPR years ago and unfortunately has now returned due to some behavioral issues. Her family has reported that Whitley has shown aggression when being asked to do something she didn't want to do and aggression over food. Since she has been with us here she has shown aggression toward both the mop and the broom, and she does resource guard her food. Due to her resource guarding issues we feel she would fit best in a home without children. Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with. Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-19-00272Bella (female)

Cockapoo    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 04/02/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Bella was turned in to a southern shelter because her owners said she had become aggressive with the grandkids. She was adopted and returned because she was possessive over food - in the shelter and at the poodle farm, Bella has had no issues whatsoever an she is slowly losing weight as she is now on a healthy diet With no history of aggression we placed Bella but sadly her food aggression returned. We're now looking for a dog savvy owner who can work with food/resource guarding and understands that this is an ongoing management issue. We feed Bella in a crate - feed her always in ... (Read More)a crate with the door closed and we think you'll have a good companion. Because of Bella's history, she will not be placed in a home with children under 18. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? overweight Weight: 38 lbs needs to be 25 Height: about 14 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? No Bella was turned into a local southern shelter by her owners because they said she was becoming aggressive with the grandkids. She was adopted from the shelter and returned for being possessive over food. Bella then came to us here at CPR and despite multiple attempts we could never trigger these behaviors. Bella was adopted from us and again returned for aggressively guarding the couch and biting the man. Basically, Bella is resource guarding, she is protecting any item she feels is valuable, (food, bones, beds, etc) and is afraid approaching people are going to take it away. Bella needs a home with someone that is experienced and willing to work with her on this issue. She needs a confident leader that will be consistent and give her lots and lots of structure. Bella would greatly benefit from basic obedience training, especially the place, out (give or drop it), and leave it commands. What kind of home would be best for me? Bella needs an owner who understands that food is NOT love, that loving a dog means providing the right balance of food, exercise, and direction. She would love a walking partner and friend. Absolutely no children. We don't know what happened in her first home but do not want to give her or children a chance to interact together in ways that may hurt Bella. Bella's best home will be one that is quiet, thoughtful, experienced and understands that she will not 'get better' or 'get over' resource guarding but it can be controlled. I think Bella would do best with a laid back, canine companion to help her learn to romp and play. Exercise is always more fun with a friend. However, she would be fine as an only dog also. What is my personality like? Very laid back How I act when I first meet new people: Bella says hello and then goes about her business. She does not force affection on you but will happily be part of the group . House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Est birthdate 3/11/2009 Please note - we do not ship dogs. Rescue Me ID: 15-10-11-00282Buckles of Sweetwater (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 08/01/2015 Reason for being in rescue: owner turn into shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes - Diabetes Insipidus Weight: 13 lbs Height: est 13' Adoption Fee: I'm special Fence needed? Yes - Buckles is very active and loves to run. What does Diabetes Insipidus mean? Buckles drinks water - all day - and urinates frequently as a result. This is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a deficiency of the pituitary hormone (vasopressin) which regulates kidney function. This disorder is very uncommon and is not curable. Buckles is currently on a hormone-replacement medication (given ... (Read More)through eye drops). It is helping a little but we do not know that this is going to be her permanent cure. We are working with her to find out what works best. What is my personality like? Buckles is spunky, friendly and loving. She is energetic and must have a fenced in yard to run in. She gets along with other dogs and cats - and would be a great playmate to another dog her size or larger. Buckles is eager to please and bonds quickly. Buckles does have a 'house training' issue only because of her condition. For someone who is retired and is home all the time, her house training isn't much of a problem. She must be taken outside every two hours, and her house training is basically controlled. Buckles cannot be deprived of water as it can be fatal to her. How I act when I first meet new people: House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-18-00454Sherlock (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sherlock! Breed: Shep a doodle - old english sheepdog and standard poodle mix Gender: male Date into Rescue: 7/31/14 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, can't handle Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? YES -Behavior Weight: Est 50 lbs Height: Est 25 ' Adoption fee: $329 Age: birthdater 10/6/2009 (Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We go with what we are told) What is my personality like? Sherlock's sad past history of shock-collar training (since he was a year old until he came to us, Sherlock wore an electric shock training collar at ... (Read More)all times) makes me cry every time I think of it. This is abuse plain and simple - to be continually shocked for the slightest transgression would drive me crazy too. Sherlock developed some bad, and quite frankly, sad, habits. After being assessed by a trainer, we believe it will take a very long time - possibly years to undo the damage that has been done to this guy. He is very strong on a leash but will walk alongside you, especially when he is wearing a harness. Sherlock is a bright dog with many skills. Cues he knows include : sit, wait (stay), up (stand up from laying down), down (to lay down), leave-it (walk away from whatever it is he's smelling, eating, doing etc.), kennel (go to his kennel), heel, here (his recall/come). There are a few other commands that he knew like 'place' and 'look sharp' but the previous owner did not reinforce these commands. Sherlock does have some resource guarding tendencies, especially inside of his crate over his food bowl. This is most evident when other dogs approach him. Our caregiver can now put his bowl in and take it out of the crate with no issues. This is a huge improvement from when he first came here. Also, according to what his previous owner witnessed with him, he does not like to be approached while he is lying down. He will growl, show teeth and or bite. We have not seen this at the farm, however farm-life and home-life are two different things, and he may resort to this behavior again once he is back in a home. Also according to his behavior with his previous owner, he could not be bathed or groomed without a muzzle. At first, we were able to do both without a muzzle here, but again he is out of his comfort zone, and sometimes dog's do not show their 'true nature' until they are comfortable. A few months into his stay with CPR, he did get wild during grooming and we chose to get him shaved down under sedation but we're going to try again. We have had two bite incidents at the farm with Sherlock. In both cases, Sherlock warned the caregiver repeatedly and the warning one time was ignored and the second time, Sherlock had a rag wrapped around his foot and it was cutting off circulation. Our caregiver was a new one and did not know he had time to call for help so he tried to remove the rag himself. It was painful and Sherlock snapped at him In both cases, the bite broke skin but did not require stitches or a doctor's visit. On a positive note, Sherlock is a happy, affectionate dog. There is much more to him than some bad habits, he loves attention and he loves to be petted. Sherlock is house and crate trained, and is VERY well mannered indoors. He really is a sweet dog who could make someone a wonderful companion, if you are are strong dog leader who understands this dog must always be closely monitored and whose energy must be drawn to positive activities. He loves to run and would make a great jogging or hiking companion. Who I am seeking: Because of his behavior, we understand Sherlock may be with for the rest of his life so he is available for virtual adoption and is seeking sponsors to help us afford to care for him. If you hate shocking dogs as much as I do, then consider Sherlock as your virtually adoptable favorite guy. Thinking you can handle him - we have requirements for Sherlock. He must be adopted by someone who is a very experienced dog-owner. Preferably someone who has experience with the breed and with the behaviors that we are describing. He must be an only dog - other animals overwhelm him and spark some of these bad habits of his. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.
